Peter Ligh is the founding attorney of Ligh Law LLC, where he focuses exclusively on estate planning. He works with individuals and families to create thoughtful estate plans, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and health care directives, that protect loved ones, preserve assets, and ensure that each client’s wishes are carried out.
Peter earned a B.A. in Political Science from Yale University, where he served as Managing Editor of the Yale Daily News. He then attended Columbia Law School, where he was a James Kent Scholar and Managing Editor of the Columbia Law Review. During law school, he served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Naomi Reice Buchwald of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York and the Honorable Sonia Sotomayor of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
After graduating from law school, Peter began his legal career as an associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore. He later joined Sutherland Asbill & Brennan, now Eversheds Sutherland, where he became a partner.
Peter founded Ligh Law LLC to provide clients with sophisticated estate planning advice in a more personal, accessible setting. He works closely with each client to design estate plans tailored to their unique family circumstances and long term goals, helping provide clarity, security, and peace of mind for the future.
Peter believes that estate planning should be clear, practical, and tailored to each client’s unique circumstances, not a one-size-fits-all collection of documents.
Peter has lived on the Upper West Side of Manhattan for more than twenty years with his wife, Ava, and their three children (now adults).
